July ’25 Poetry Contest Theme: Poetic Rant — Speak Your Truth: A Creative Rant of a Social Issue

This July, poets were challenged to channel their raw, unfiltered honesty into verse by choosing a relevant social issue that burns in their heart and speaking their truths about it. The aim wasn't just to rant heedlessly, but to express their perspective in a creative rant: intense, emotional, and authentic. Each entry sought to grab attention, spark reflection and possibly, ignite change in society.
Contest Process
The contest and steps were officially announced in July 1, 2025, with the submission deadline fixed for July 12, 2025.
Three steps to enter:
1. Submit a written version via the link on @yemipoet Bio.
2. Upload your 1-minute poetic rant video on Instagram. Tag @yemipoet and use #yemipoetcontest, #poeticrant.
3. Join our Facebook community ‘Yemipoet Community’ and upload your rant there.
By the submission deadline, 52 entries were received (as of 15 July).
Evaluation Criteria
Entries were evaluated based on:
● Relevance of the poetic rant
● Ability to grab attention
● Capacity to spark reflection
● Potential to ignite change in the hearts of people
Top 10 & Winners
After careful evaluation, the Top 10 (in no particular order) were announced on July 20.
The Top Four Winners were officially announced on July 23.
