About us

Yemipoet Poetry Contest (Yemipoet Creation) is an activity under YACSO Foundation, a creative platform that organizes contests, promotes emerging talents, and envisions a future in publishing.

Yemipoet Contest fosters creativity and connection among poets in Nigeria. Through monthly themed competitions, each drawing over 200 entries from poets. These themes often align with cultural, spiritual, and real-life issues, as well as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including gender equality, zero hunger, climate action, and social justice. The top three winners are awarded cash prizes, cultivating a competitive yet supportive community.

More than a platform, the Yemipoet Contest has given birth to the Yacso Foundation, a nonprofit organization that oversees the Yemipoet Contest. The Yacso Foundation champions school/community outreaches to foster self-expression and mental health, teaching poetry and storytelling, and inspiring social change. At its heart lies the Yemigoldentouch Initiative, our partner NGO dedicated to creating real-world impact through targeted outreach aligned with Sustainable Development Goals 2 and 4, specifically Zero Hunger and Quality Education.

Happy Anniversary to Yemipoet Poetry Contest!

As part of our anniversary celebration, our team took poetry beyond the stage and into the communities of Lagos, Nigeria.

We went in search of older generations and invited them to share the songs, poems, rhymes, and verses they remembered from their younger days.

And then, we met this beautiful woman, who brought back a piece of her youth through her rendition.

Her performance is a reminder that poetry lives in our memories, our traditions, and the stories passed down through generations.

We were happy to appreciate her participation with a small cash gift.

A big thank you to all our amazing volunteers who helped make this community outreach possible.

And this is just the beginning…
