About us

Yemipoet Poetry Contest ( also Yemipoet Creation) is an activity under YACSO Foundation, a creative platform that organizes contests, promotes emerging talents, and envisions a future in publishing.

Yemipoet Contest fosters creativity and connection among poets in Nigeria. Through monthly themed competitions, each drawing over 200 entries from poets. These themes often align with cultural, spiritual, and real-life issues, as well as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including gender equality, zero hunger, climate action, and social justice. The top three winners are awarded cash prizes, cultivating a competitive yet supportive community.

Yacso Foundation, a nonprofit organization, is home to the Yemipoet Poetry Contest. The Yacso Foundation champions school/community outreach to foster self-expression and mental health, teaching poetry and storytelling, and inspiring social change. At its heart lies the Yemigoldentouch Initiative, our partner NGO dedicated to creating real-world impact through targeted outreach aligned with Sustainable Development Goals 2 and 4, specifically Zero Hunger and Quality Education.

Whether you’re here to read, perform, or create change, I welcome you into my world of rhythm and responsibility.

A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who participated and shared their creativity with us.

Our team has begun the review process, so stay tuned for the announcement of our Top 30, followed by the Top 10, and finally our Top 3 winners!

Every entry is valuable, and every poet who participated deserves to be celebrated. However, we can only select three winners because our cash prize budget covers just three poets.

Thank you for being part of this journey. Keep creating, keep expressing, and most importantly, keep writing!

Dear girl child, future should not be limited by the pain of her mother's past.

You may inherit our history, but you do not have to inherit all our suffering. You deserve to dream beyond our limitations, speak where we were silenced, stand where we were denied, and build a life in which your worth is never up for debate.

Happy International Day of the Girl Child!

You don't have to be okay all the time to deserve kindness. You don't have to explain your pain to justify it, and you don't have to turn every difficult day into a victory. Sometimes, being here and making it through the day is enough.

And perhaps, on this World Mental Health Day, this poem is a gentle reminder that awareness is important, but understanding, patience, and compassion are needed every day of the year.

Welcome to the Yemipoet October Poetry Contest 2026! This month's contest invites poets from all walks of life.

Our theme for this month is an image.

Sometimes, the hardest part is not having many things to love, but having to be present in all of them at once. Therefore, we position them strategically around us, giving each a piece of ourselves, until balance slips, focus becomes an afterthought, and productivity is left hanging in the air.

Write and lets read!

Contests With Purpose

More info

The YACSO Foundation, home of the Yemipoet Poetry Contest (Yemipoet Creation), continues to use poetry as a powerful tool for awareness, education, and community development. Through monthly themed poetry contests, such as “Voices Against Hunger,” we amplify important social issues, organise mentorship workshops for young adults, conduct school and community outreach programmes, and publish poetry anthologies that inspire positive change. We kindly invite individuals, organisations, and corporate partners to support our mission through donations and sponsorships. Your generous contributions will help sustain our community programmes, empower young voices, nurture creativity, and extend our impact to more schools and communities. Together, we can inspire change, amplify voices, and build a better future through poetry.
