Two Years of Yemipoet: A Journey of Voices, Courage, and Impact
Imagine writing your very first poem and wondering if anyone would ever read it.
That was how we felt when the Yemipoet Contest began. We dreamed of creating a space where people could share their stories through poetry, but we also wondered: Would anyone join us? Would anyone believe in this dream?
Two years later, the answer has been far beyond what we imagined.
In just two years, Yemipoet has received over 5,000 entries, reached people across 25 states in Nigeria and five countries, supported 86 winners, published two anthologies, and inspired students in schools to find their voices and speak up through poetry.
These numbers are remarkable, but our greatest achievement isn't found in statistics.
It is in every life encouraged.
Every voice discovered.
Every heart healed.
Every story that found the courage to be told.
It is in the poet who dared to share their first poem, the student who discovered that their words mattered, and the writer who found a community that believed in their voice.
Today, as we celebrate two incredible years of Yemipoet, we want to say thank you.
To our participants, volunteers, judges, partners, sponsors, schools, and every single person who has supported this journey—thank you for believing in the power of poetry and in the people behind the words.
Your support has helped turn poems into platforms, words into confidence, and stories into lasting impact.
As we celebrate this milestone, we also look ahead with hope and excitement. This is only the beginning. The best chapters of the Yemipoet story are still being written, and we cannot wait to see the voices, stories, and dreams that the future will bring.
