Two Years of Yemipoet Poetry Contest

<blockquote><h3>The Yemipoet July Spoken Word Contest invited poets to share their stories through spoken-word poetry.</h3></blockquote>The theme, “The Place I Broke, I Bloom,” encouraged poets to speak about painful moments, and how they healed. It reminded poets that a difficult experience does not have to be the end of their story. Yemipoet July Spoken Word Contest ’26 Theme: The Place I Broke, I Bloom

The Yemipoet June Poetry Contest calls on poets to explore an Acrostic Poem, themed “Who Am I?” The theme challenged participants to reflect on their core deeply. Participants were encouraged to express themselves through poetry, sharing stories of their identity, self-awareness, personal growth, purpose, dreams and truth.&nbsp; <blockquote>Each poem was meant to serve as a snapshot of the writer's journey and a reflection of who they are.</blockquote> The entries were required to be an acrostic poem written using the poet's real name, with the name containing at least six letters. With instructions that every line of the poem must correspond to a letter of the participant's name, making each piece a unique expression of identity and creativity.Submission Process The contest was announced on 1st June, 2026Submissions closed on 10th June, 2026Submission: Participants were instructed to submit their entries by posting either an amazing image of themselves or a representative image on Instagram in collaboration with @yacsofoundation. A total of 161 entries were received from poets across diverse backgrounds.Evaluation and Winners Entries were evaluated based on creativity, originality, proper interpretation of the theme, and quality of their posts. Six poets were selected by the judges following the review process. The remaining 4 spots were accorded to those whose entries recorded the highest engagement, and together these 10 poets made up the Top 10 finalists. From the Top 10, the audience participated in the final stage by voting for their favourite poets through colour-coded comments. Yemipoet June Poetry Contest ’26 Theme: Who Am I?

The Yemipoet May Poetry Contest invited poets to explore the theme Broken, Molded and Made New. The theme focused on transformation, restoration, and the relationship between human brokenness and the work of the Potter who reshapes lives into something new.Participants were encouraged to reflect and write on the process of being broken, molded, and renewed. Through poetry, they shared stories of growth, healing, faith, resilience, and redemption.Each poem was to follow a structure of just four stanzas and sixteen lines in total.Submission Process Contest Announced: 1st May, 2026 Submissions Closed: 10th May, 2026 Submission Platform: The official submission link provided through the @yemipoet Instagram Bio <a title="Enter Our Poetry Contest" href="https://yemipoetproduction.com/" data-mce-href="https://yemipoetproduction.com/">https://yemipoetproduction.com/</a>&nbsp;Total Entries: 260 submissions were received from poets across diverse backgrounds.Evaluation and Winners Entries were carefully assessed based on originality, creativity, emotional depth, adherence to the theme, and overall poetic craftsmanship. Poets were encouraged to rely on stronger verbs and clearer descriptions instead of excessive adverbs.&nbsp;The last tip centered around poetry thriving on specificity. Rather than relying on generic nouns, poets were encouraged to use precise and descriptive alternatives that create clearer images in the reader's mind.&nbsp;The month also featured a special moment of celebration as Yemipoet honoured Oreoluwa Odusina, the first-ever first-place winner produced by the Yemipoet Contest. Oreoluwa emerged as the winner of the inaugural contest held in 2024, themed "Anger Lies in the Bosom of a Fool."
